Our employees have purchased over $16,000 worth of hay for struggling farmers.

Thursday 11 July, 2019.

Staff participating in our CommunityAssist program have elected 200 Bales, a mid-western charity assisting farmers in need, to be the recipient of our latest round of staff salary donations.

The charity which was formed by a group of Mudgee locals in 2018 provides vital support to farmers who are often too shy or proud to ask for help.

Mudgee Assistant Branch Manager, Debbie Clemmet, nominated 200 Bales to receive the donation and was thrilled to present the $16,569 cheque to help support her local community.

Our local team has seen first-hand the devastating impacts the drought has had on our community and we’re so delighted to be able to lend a helping hand through our CommunityAssist Program.

"It makes me really pleased to work for a customer-owned organisation which helps us to give back to the communities that support us," said Debbie.

Local resident and founder of 200 Bales, Glenn Box, said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of Newcastle Permanent staff.

"It’s a really special feeling knowing that Newcastle Permanent staff throughout New South Wales see value in our cause and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.

"Most of us know a family member, neighbour or a friend that’s doing it tough and this generous donation will help to restore hope in so many lives,"said Glenn.

The Newcastle Permanent staff donations scheme distributes funds twice a year. It enables employees to nominate and vote on local charities to receive the funds raised. The program to date has provided more than $800,000 to charities since it started in 1997, averaging $60,000 in donations each year.
