Newcastle Permanent's Mathematics Online Team Challenge turns three!
Earlier last week, young mathletes from across NSW battled it out in the Newcastle Permanent Primary School Online Mathematics Team Challenge, which returned for it’s third year.
Having transitioned from an annual Maths Camp in response to COVID-19, the invite-only challenge brings together year 5 and 6 students who performed exceptionally well in last year’s Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition to solve complex maths problems under the pressure of time.
Over the course of 45 minutes, almost 90 students from 17 primary schools worked together in small teams to power through 27 questions, some of which required responses in as little as 60 seconds.
And after a quick dash to the finish line, it was Central Coast Grammar School who took out first place in the end, followed by Hunter Valley Grammar School who came in at a close second and finally, Gosford Public School, who rounded out the top three.
Congratulations to all teams!
Teachers from participating schools were delighted with the online event and have since passed on some excellent feedback, with Jesse Black from Central Coast Grammar School saying he had never seen the students so excited.
“I just wanted to extend a big "Thank You!" for letting our school participate in the competition today.
“It was very well run, and the kids had a blast!
“We’re looking forward to seeing what's in store for next year” he said.
